Internet Personal Page
Specifications
General
:
GPBX users wishing to have a personal page on our server can do so by placing hyper-text pages within their home directory. Charges may apply to those on a lower Service Plan, or if a disk space maximum is exceeded. The guidelines listed b
elow must be followed.
Greensburg PBX reserves the right to refuse publication/server space to any material it finds objectionable in nature. Keep the pages "clean". Pages containing information on a business, or for intent of a business nature are not considered "Personal"
pages, and have their own rate structure. Please contact GPBX for business rate information. Non-profit organizations should contact us to place a page on the Internet.
Procedures:
- The first step in creating a personal home page is learning how to write hyper-text documents. The easiest way to do this is to download a program like
HotDog. This program offers tools to quickly design web pages. Manuals can also be found online through services like Yahoo or WebCrawler. The best online manual I have found is A Beginners Guide to HTML.
- Once a personal page is created it needs to be placed within ones home account. A simple FTP program like
CuteFTP can be used to do this. The web pages will go into a direct
ory called /home/USERID/public_html. The USERID needs to be replaced with the personal e-mail ID (i.e. jblow00).
- Once completed with the download one can access a home page with the following address: http://home.gpbx.net/~USERID. Again USERID needs to be replaced with the e-mail ID for example, http://home.gpbx.net/~stest00.
- Finally, e-mail Greensburg PBX and give us your name. We will then add a link to your page from our
Greensburg PBX Personal Home Pages site.
Guidelines:
- The first page MUST be called index.html or index.htm in order for the server to find it.
- When referring to other pages on our server, please do NOT use "http://...", as it is inefficient. Instead, use a slash, then the path and filename.
- Please watch your disk space! You are permitted 4M of disk space on our server without incurring additional charges. This maximum includes email and your personal directory (html files, images, etc.) combined.
- Clean up after yourself! If you delete or change a page, you'll need to delete any associated images, etc. that are no longer accessed.
Following these rules allows easy management of pages, and will let us continue to provide this service to our subscribers at no/low charges.
