VETERAN'S DAY 11-11-97 6 AM SEVENTEEN UNITS ARE SCHEDULED TO PARTICIPATE IN TODAY'S VETERAN'S DAY PARADE AT 5:00 PM. THE PARADE WILL START WITH THE DECAUTR COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND CONCLUDE WITH UNITS FROM THE GREENSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT. IN BETWEEN WILL BE SEVERAL REPRESENTATIVES OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS AND THEIR LADIES AUXILIARIES, THE SONS OF THE LEGION, AM-VETS, THE GREENSBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND THE DECATUR COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES. MARCH MUSIC WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE GREENSBURG, NORTH AND SOUTH DECATUR HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BANDS. FOLLOWING THE PARADE, A U.S. MARINE COLOR GUARD WILL RAISE THE AMERICAN FLAG TO KICK OFF THE DEDICATION OF THE NEW ALL WARS MEMORIAL ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE COURTHOUSE LAWN. THE GREENSBURG COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL SILHOUETTES AND SHADOWS WILL SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM FOLLOWED BY ESSAY WINNERS WHO WILL SPEAK ON "WHAT A VETERAN MEANS TO ME". WILLIAM SMITH WILL GIVE THE MAIN ADDRESS AND THE SILHOUETTES AND SHADOWS WILL CLOSE WITH THE SINGING OF "GOD BLESS THE U.S.A". -ak- |
